Alongside my clinical practice, I am actively involved in research aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Contributing to national clinical trials and academic work keeps my practice engaged with the latest evidence and the evolution of prostate cancer treatment.
Clinical trial involvement
Principal Investigator (Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust) — IP2-ATLANTA prostate cancer trial
IP2-ATLANTA is a national, multicentre phase II randomised controlled trial, led by Professor Hashim Ahmed at Imperial College London and supported by Prostate Cancer UK. It is investigating whether treating the prostate itself — by surgery, radiotherapy or minimally invasive ablation — may benefit men who have been newly diagnosed with prostate cancer that has already spread beyond the gland (metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer), in addition to the standard drug treatments these men receive. The aim is to find out whether addressing the original tumour can help control the disease for longer; this is a research question the trial is designed to answer, not an established treatment.
As Principal Investigator at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, I lead this study locally, enabling eligible NHS patients in Buckinghamshire to take part in this nationally important research.
This is an NHS research study with specific eligibility criteria, assessed by the clinical team — it is not a private treatment. Men who think they may be eligible should speak to their NHS urology or oncology team.
Publications
In addition to patient-facing content, I have published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals throughout my career. My research has been cited over 1,000 times in academic literature.
